Getting Started with Artstor

Introduction of Artstor, the major database of images for the visual arts and allied disciplines.

Why Browse?

Browsing demonstrates the scope and depth of ARTstor's collections. Users can browse by one of these areas:

  1. Geography (200+ locations)
  2. Classification (16 categories)
  3. Collection (every collection of origin, alphabetically arranged)

Browsing can retrieve so many images that the researcher may wish to perform a more precise advanced search. In an advanced search one can enter search terms and limit results by checking the appropriate box(es) to particular geographical location(s) and classification(s). It is also possible to search within the results of a "browsed" search to reduce the number of hits. For more information on a particular collection, click on Learn More above the first row of images retrieved under that collection.
