Headings for Arkansas Performing Artists

HEADINGS FOR ARKANSAS PERFORMING ARTISTS

Follow this procedure when you are cataloging:

  • Media materials (scores, sound recordings, video recordings, and electronic resources) that feature an individual or group performing artist from (or associated with) Arkansas.
  • Books or other works about Arkansas performing artists.

WORKS BY ARKANSAS PERFORMING ARTISTS

If the person or group is responsible for some aspect of a media work (screenwriter, director, producer, actor, composer, singer, musician, etc.), provide the following access points:

A.  Listing in contents or other note if the performing artist is not named in other parts of the catalog record. Include Arkansas performing artists even if their role is not significant enough that they would normally be mentioned. The performing artist may simply be included in regular notes, or a more specific local note may be added. For example:

511 1 1   James Stewart, June Allyson, Frank Lovejoy, Alex Nicol, Barry Sullivan, Bruce Bennett, Jay C. Flippen. [Flippen was born in Little Rock, Ark.]

500   Mr. Flip and Alkali Ike's auto directed by Gilbert M. "Broncho Billy" Anderson.

590  Roy Boney, Jr., director, writer, actor, animator, was a fellow at the Sequoyah Research Center at UALR from July 2005 to July 2007.

B. Main or added entry for the individual or group. Again, make added entries for Arkansas performing artists even if their role is not significant enough that they would normally be given such entries. For example:

700 1    Cash, Johnny.

710 2    Trout Fishing in America (Musical group)

C. Local subject heading. Assign the following subject heading in all cases:

690    Arkansas performing artist

However, do not apply the above instructions to books (or PDF reproductions of books) written by Arkansas performing artists. Also exclude University of Arkansas concert recordings.

WORKS ABOUT ARKANSAS PERFORMING ARTISTS

Generally assign the local subject heading to works about Arkansas individuals or groups affiliated with the performing arts. For example:

690    Arkansas performing artist
