Checking for Plagiarism at the University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas has provided a plagiarism check as part of the Blackboard system.  It is called SafeAssign.  Students can self-submit papers and/or you can create a SafeAssign assignment within your course.  Either option gives students  the ability to check paper, thesis, dissertation, or other writings against a database that includes journal articles, papers submitted by students, and various web publications.  The second option, a SafeAssign assignment gives YOU the ability to review the students submissions. Directions can be found at the University of Arkansas Blackboard support site.  Some are linked below.  Remember the expert on all things related to Blackboard is our Blackboard Administrator in UITS.  The Faculty Technology Center staff support this product and can best help you with the details.  Please visit their information page if you have additional questions.

A note of caution.  Automatic plagiarism software is only as good as the database of resources it uses to compare writings and the matching software used.  Details on what SafeAssign uses for comparison can be found on the Blackboard Learn resource page.
