This guide presents some library resources useful for the paper assignments in Composition 1 classes.

Glossary of library materials terms

Titled: Glossary of Library Material terms. There are six boxes labeled books, journal article, databases, references source, magazine article, and news article. In the books box it states: Non-fiction books are often academic sources that provide in-depth information on a broad topic. The journal article box states: A single contribution to a journal. Journal articles are academic publications that report on original research in a field. The databases box states: Databases in the libraries collection are often mini-libraries of information on a specific topic, for a specific purpose, or for in-depth, scholarly research--all accessible through computer searches. The next box, the reference source, states: Dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks that can help you with the context of a topic, quick definition, an overview of an issue, facts, dates, and more. The magazine box states: A single contribution to a magazine. Magazine articles are non-academic publications that are written using easy-to- read language. A lastly, the news article box states: A single contribution to a newspaper. Newspaper articles are non-academic publications that provide timely information on current events, local topics, and global news.
