Campus Multi-factor Authentication for Faculty and Staff

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be required for access to campus services such as Box, Office apps (includingTeams), Blackboard Learn, and OpenAthens.  The due date to set up MFA is currently March 30th

Read more about getting MFA set up.  After you have configured your personal device for MFA, you will see a dialog box asking your to confirm your login by responding to a phone call or app when logging into authenticated services.

Using GlobalConnect VPN to Access Campsu Resources

Installing VPN

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is like a tunnel created between your computer or device to the campus network. Using a VPN connection will allow your off-campus computer or mobile device to appear as if it is on the campus network.

Navigating to Library Resources and Servers

Connect to Library Servers

Once Global Protect is installed and activated, library servers can be accessed normally.  Following are links to the library file servers, simply click on the server name to view all shared resources:

  • \\Nautilus – departmental file server
  • \\Libarch – digital preservation data
  • \\Wright – digital projects, Digital Services, Special Collections

Mapping a Network Drive - Windows

Once connected to VPN, use the file browser to

  • navigate to the appropriate server as listed above
  • find the  folder you want to map to
  • right-click on the folder and choose ‘Map Network Drive’
  • select the drive letter of your choice
  • click ‘Finish’ to complete the process. 

Mapping a Network Drive - Mac

For MAC users, on the Finder toolbar, click on ‘GO’, choose ‘Connect to Server’, then type in the server name you wish to access, in the following format:

  • SMB://Nautilus
  • SMB://Libarch
  • SMB://Wright

Once the server appears in the list, you should be able to click on it and see and select the available shared folders.

Connecting on iPad / iOS or Android Device

IOS / iPad

File browse on iOS devices will require a special file handler app such as FE File Explorer (available in Lite/Free and Pro versions). 

  • Download the FileExplorer app from the iTunes Store: The free version eems to work fine.
  • Connect to campus VPN with GlobalProtect. Open FileExplorer and select the + for a new connection.
  • Choose a NAS connection.
  • The host name/IP I used was \\Nautilus
  • Leave the other settings as they are and input your UARK username and password.

In testing, we have been able to connect, browse files, open them, and download them. We could not add folders to Nautilus nor upload upload an edited file back to Nautilus. Let us know if your experience differs!

Android
