Quick Tips for Library Research

If you have an assignment, and know what your assignment or project is, bring the assignment sheet, description, or notes with you. A big part of our job IS to answer your questions, so feel welcome to ask!

Get started early; it allows you to build understanding and helps us help you more. What kind(s) of information do you need-- a single fact, a simple analysis, an in-depth discussion, or more? Some things show up in specific places and not others. Encyclopedias or handbooks may give you 

If you are trying to broaden your understanding of a topic, great! We can help there, too. Consult with librarians or staff at the Research desk, or email your librarian.

Cite your sources as you work.

It is far easier to keep track if you record the information about your sources as you go. We offer Endnote Basic; other alternatives including Zotero and Mendeley-- but even keeping note cards is far better than losing track.
