Down but Not Out

Workarounds for when the catalog or website are not available

Use QuickSearch to find Books in the Catalog

You can search our new QuickSearch service to find books, articles, and other types of publications in one search.

1. Connect to QuickSearch and then limit your results to Library Catalog

QuickSearch - limit to LIbrary Catalog

2. Your filtered results will include books and other materials from the library catalog.  The Call Number will display for print books, but unfortunately the location and checkout status will not display when the catalog is down.

Use WorldCat Classic as a Local Catalog

When the catalog is down, you can still use WorldCat Classic to locate materials in the Libraries.

This system will not tell you:

  •  Which branch the item is in
  •  The call numbers for items such as manuscript collections that are shelved according to an accession number, rather than a Library of Congress number.

 1. On the Search screen, you can limit your search to Library Symbol AFU for the University Libraries
(Law Library is RG2) or check the box to limit to items in my library:

2. In your record set, look at the detailed view for a record.  The Library of Congress classification will be towards the bottom of the record:

  • The classification number will give you the base call number; it will not give you the “cutter” line that describes the book's author, etc.
