he Mississippi Oral History Colection was established at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1971 for the purpose of preserving on tape the memories and perceptions of important events in Mississippi history. Emphasis is on government, politics, business and ethnic relations; other topics covered include the National Cotton Council of America, prisoners of war from the Vietnam and Korean conflicts, and the creative arts and publishing. Interviewees include Charles Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, Erskine Caldwell, and several members of the U.S. Congress. Most interviews date from 1971 to 1977.
