RefWorks Exporting and Importing Instructions

Step-by-step instructions for getting citations out of library databases and into RefWorks

Sage Encyclopedias

  1. Search for the desired item. In the results window on the left hand side there is a green box. At the top right of that box click on the "Cite" link.
  2. A new window opens displaying how to cite the item in different style formats. Below that under the section "Download citation," select Refworks.
  3. A window comes up asking you to find, save, or cancel. Save the citation to a local directory; the document will save as an RIS (.ris) document.
  4. Log in to Refworks. To import, select RIS format as both the Import/filter and Database. Browse for the appropriate file, attach it, then hit the Import button. The item is imported to Refworks.
