Barcode Use Log

Unitech Hand Held Barcode Scanner MS320

Setup

Obtain User’s Manual for selected MS320 unit.  This is needed for the barcodes that are used to program the scanner.
Copies are available from Library IT or if you do not have a copy of the user’s manual, one may be downloaded at:

Unitech MS320 Manual.

You may also download the following document and print it out (don't try to scan from the screen!),

Connect the interface cable to the device and then the USB cable between scanner and PC.  Windows will automatically detect the USB device.

Programming

To program the MS320, you must scan a series of programming barcodes in the correct order. Fold out the back cover of the manual to view a table of alphanumeric barcodes, which are used to program the various options presented.

  1. To program each option, you must:
  1. Scan the Program barcode on the parameter setting part.
  2. Enter the option mode by scanning the Option Bar Code (also on the Parameter setting part).
  3. To the right of the option barcode, the necessary alphanumeric inputs are listed. Scan these alphanumeric entries from the back fold out page. To confirm above steps, you must scan the Finish barcode on the back fold out page.
  4. Once you have finished programming. Scan the Exit barcode, listed on the lower right hand corner of each parameter setting part.
  1. Begin the programming of the MS320 on page 16-17 of the manual – Scan.
  1. Scan the Program barcode on the top of page 17 (“$%+PRO”).
  2. Scan the barcode for Scanning Mode (*7AA*) and then select the alphanumeric barcode in the back cover for the option you need.  The options are:

00 -- Good-read off -- The trigger button must be pressed to activate scanning.

01 – Momentary -- The trigger button acts as a switch which must be pressed to activate scanning and   released to stop scanning.

02 – Alternate -- The trigger button acts as a toggle switch which is pressed to activate or stop scanning.

03 -- Timeout off -- The trigger button must be pressed to activate scanning, and scanner stops scanning when no code is decoded after the Stand-by duration elapsed.

04 – Continue -- The scanner always keeps reading, and it does not matter when trigger button is pressed or duration is elapsed.

  1. For most individual uses, selection 02 or 03 should be used.  For a desk situation where the scanner will need to remain active, option 04 should be used.
  2. After scanning the option barcode, scan the Finish barcode inside the back cover (*%%*), return to page 17 and scan the Exit barcode (*%$$*) to conclude this phase of programming.
  1. Programming indicators
  1. For the next step, go to pages 20-21 to program the indicators for the scanner.

  3. Scan the barcode for the Beep loudness mode (*5AD*) and then select the alphanumeric barcode in the back cover for the option you need.  Generally 04 is used.
  4. Scan the Finish barcode inside the back cover (*%%*), return to page 21 and scan the Exit barcode (*%$$*) to conclude this phase of programming.
  1. The next step of programming on pages 46-47 is the selection of the Codabar barcodes.
  1. Scan the Program barcode on the top of page 47 (“$%+PRO”).
  2. Scan the barcode for the Read mode (*EAA*) and then select the alphanumeric barcode in the back cover for the enable option -- 01.
  3. Scan the Finish barcode (* %%*), return to page 47 and scan the Exit barcode (*%$$*).
  4. Go to page 48 to continue the Codabar programming.
  5. Scan the Program barcode on the top of page 48 (“$%+PRO”).
  6. Scan the barcode for the Start/End transmission (*EAK*) and then select the alphanumeric barcode in the back cover for the disable option -- 00.
  7. Scan the 00 barcode a second time.
  8. Scan the Finish barcode (*%%*), return to page 49 and scan the Exit barcode (*%$$*) to conclude the programming of the MS320 barcode scanner.
