Subscription and Free Databases - General Resources

Below are databases useful to find information on theses and dissertations published by Universities around the world. Many of the theses/dissertations are available in full-text but not all. If you find a resource that is not available in full-text, please search OneSearch by author or title. If it is not available in OneSearch, you may order through InterLibrary Loan.

General Resources

Foreign Doctoral Dissertations (Center for Research Libraries) This link opens in a new window
Covers: 1900- .Search the CRL (Center for Research Libraries) collection of foreign theses and dissertations. CRL is a cooperative collection of esoteric materials. Because the LIbraries are CRL members you may borrow materials on Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad).Search by author, translated title, institution, country, year, or subject keyword. The University of Arkansas is a member of CRL and researchers can borrow these materials via Interlibrary Loan.

Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD)
A collaborative effort of the NDLTD, OCLC, VTLS, and Scirus, the NDLTD Union Catalog contains more than one million records of electronic theses and dissertations.
EBSCO Open Dissertations
This approach includes records for dissertations and theses from 1955 to the present accepted by American Universities.
WorldCat
This database contains almost 150 million records on the holdings of over 71,000 libraries in 112 countries representing 400 languages. WorldCat describes items on thousands of subjects and published in any year since about 1000. The items cited are owned by the University Libraries or by libraries around the world. Types of publications include: master's theses, doctoral dissertations, books, journals, maps, slides, computer datafiles, magazines, musical scores, sound recordings, etc.

US Institutional Repositories

OhioLINK ETD Center
OhioLINK ETD Center database of Electronic Theses and Dissertations. OhioLINK is a consortium of 88 Ohio colleges and universities and the State Library of Ohio.
DSpace@MIT
MIT's DSpace contains more than 25,000 theses completed at MIT dating from mid 1800's. Theses in this collection have been scanned by Document Services or submitted in electronic format by thesis authors. Since 2004, all new Masters and Ph.D. theses are covered in this database.

DART-Europe E-theses Portal
The DART-Europe E-theses Portal helps the discovery and delivery of the open access research theses stored in the institutional, consortial and national repositories from over 14 European countries. The Portal has been created by the DART-Europe partnership, a network of research libraries and library consortia who are working together to improve global access to European electronic theses. It provides access to over 100,000 full-text theses/dissertations.

France

Système universitaire de documentation
Provides access to records and some electronic theses and dissertations published at French research institutions.
Fichier Central Des Theses
The theses.fr search engine lists all doctoral theses defended in France since 1985, thesis subjects prepared within French higher education establishments, and people involved in French doctoral research.

Index to Theses (British Theses)
This is an index to theses with abstracts accepted for higher degrees by the universities of Great Britain and Ireland and the Council for National Academic Awards. Fulltext links for almost 300,000 theses now available.

Germany

DissOnline
DissOnline provides information on the subject of electronic university publications. It can be used to find out directly all about online dissertations and post-doctoral theses. Sample documents can be downloaded to provide help in the creation of electronic university publications.

Theses Canada Portal
Provides access to AMICUS, Canada's national online catalog of all theses in the National Library of Canada theses collection from 1965.
It has free full text Canadian theses and dissertations published from 1998 to the present.

Mexico
