Places to start

To get started, decide what information you need. Need help? Please ask!

Find books, handbooks, dictionaries and government documents, in print and electronic, with the Libraries' catalog. The catalog will also list what journals or magazines we own, and there is a list of electronic journals from A-Z here.

Use databases, linked below, such as Agricola, CAB Abstracts, Academic Search Complete, Scifinder, and Web of Science to find articles in journals; these are a good source of current research and trends.

Dictionaries and handbooks are sources for discrete facts and definitions, like the boiling point of a compound or the scientific name or common name of a plant.

Books often give good overviews and background on topics. They usually give a broader, more complete view of a subject, or a very detailed and in depth look at a smaller subject.
