Melba Pattillo Beals (1941-) was a journalist, author, and activist who became known as a teenager as one of the Little Rock Nine, the group of African American students who was involved in the desegregation of the school. This collection consists of letters, photographs, magazines, newspaper and other publication clippings, commemorative materials, and related materials regarding Melba Pattillo Beals and detailing the integration of Little Rock’s Central High School in 1957-1958.

Thelma Mothershed Wair (1940-) was born in 1940 in Texas, and resides in Little Rock, Arkansas today. Wair is most well-known as one of the Little Rock Nine, the name given to the students who first integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957. This collection contains correspondence related to the Little Rock Nine Scholarship and the personal papers of Thelma Mothershed Wair and other members of the Mothershed family.

Oren Harris was elected to the House of Representatives in 1940 and was subsequently reelected to Congress for 13 terms, representing the Fourth District of Arkansas for over 25 years. The collection includes materials created by Harris during his service in public office.

L. Brooks Hays was Arkansas State Assistant Attorney General (1925-1929), U.S. Representative (1943-1959), Assistant Secretary of State for Congressional Relations (1961), and Special Assistant and Counsel to the President (1961-1966). These records, most of which date from 1915 to 1972, pertain to Hays' personal, financial, professional, and political activities and interests; and specifically to the Little Rock, Arkansas, school integration crisis of 1957-1958.

Virgil T. Blossom (1907-1965) was an educator who taught in Oklahoma and Arkansas and was Superintendent of Schools in Little Rock during integration. This collection documents Virgil T. Blossom's career as Superintendent of the Little Rock Public Schools, 1953-1958, especially his role in the desegregation crisis in 1957-58.

Caldwell served in the United States Department of Justice (1941-1968). His positions included Chief of the Japanese Section of the U. S. War Department's Military Intelligence Division during World War II and assistant to the Assistant Attorney-General for the Civil Rights Division. The papers include correspondence, memoranda, addresses, reports, and photographs.

The Faubus Oral History Interview Project Materials contains notes, transcripts, newspaper clippings, photocopied reproductions of archival materials, and tape cassette recordings of interviews related to Orval Faubus, including his involvement with the Little Rock Crisis.

Henry Woods (1918-2002) attended the University of Arkansas and was a lawyer, a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a manager of political campaigns, and a U.S. District Judge. This collection documents Judge Woods' career from the 1940s to the 1990s, and includes correspondence, photographs, Little Rock school desegregation cases, and videocassettes pertaining to other court cases.

Herbert Thomas (1899-1979) was the founder and president of The First Pyramid Life Insurance Company of America in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was also active in politics, economic development of Arkansas, and the voluntary, cooperative integration of public schools in Arkansas. The papers include correspondence, speeches, clippings, and other material created, received, or collected by Thomas.

Journals, correspondence, notes, interview transcripts, school publications, and other material created or collected by Mrs. Huckaby, who served as Vice Principal for Girls during the first year of integration at Central High School in Little Rock. The collection also contains two drafts of her book, Crisis At Central High.

Colbert ("Bert") Scott Cartwright (1924-) was an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and served as a pastor to congregations in Virginia, Arkansas, Ohio, and Texas. During his time in Little Rock, Cartwright became associated with integration when he preached a sermon urging compliance following the historic Brown v. Board of Education U.S. Supreme Court decision of May 17, 1954. This collection includes scrapbooks focused on Cartwright's involvement with race relations in Little Rock (Pulaski County), and particularly to the Little Rock Central High Integration Crisis.

The Arkansas Council on Human Relations was organized in December 1954 as a voluntary non-profit, non-political organization associated with the Southern Regional Council. The purpose of the ACHR was to seek improved human relations by working to secure equal opportunity for all people. This collection includes materials in a variety of formats pertaining to the creation, organization, and functioning of the Council, and to the activities of its officers, directors, staff, members, supporters, and opponents in regard to the legal, political, moral, educational, religious, social, economic, and other aspects of race relations in Arkansas.

Books, pamphlets, newspapers, leaflets, reprints, and other material published or distributed by the Citizens' Councils to promote their political and social views on federalism, public schools, communism, ethnology, and, especially, race relations in the United States.

Sarah Alderman Murphy (1924-) was an educator and activist, and a member of the Women's Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools (WEC) during the movement to integrate public schools in Little Rock, AR. Murphy held leadership positions in the Arkansas Department of Education during the 1970s and 1980s. This collection includes interviews by Sarah Alderman Murphy, with participants in the Little Rock school integration crisis.

Papers pertaining to the Little Rock Central High School integration crisis (1957-1959) and the Women's Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools (WEC). The collection includes an account of the events by J. O. Powell, along with notes and correspondence to a nephew, Tim DeLaney.

Jessie Angeline (Angie) Evans is known for speaking out in favor of integration in 1958, student council president at Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Arkansas. Her remarks at a school board meeting in 1958 made national and international news, and she was featured in publications such as Life, Time, and Look. The collection consists of materials, predominately correspondence and press coverage, regarding Jessie Angeline (Angie) Evans, with the bulk focusing on her support of school integration while student council president.
