What is a Research Database?

illustration of globe and open bookA research database is a searchable index of research literature where you can find published studies from peer-reviewed journals, among other types of research publications. The University Libraries subscribes to many different databases--some are specific to certain subject areas, while others have broader coverage of many subject areas. See below to find recommended databases for research topics in nursing and related fields.

For assistance using these databases, see the page on "Database Search Strategies," or reach out to the Health Sciences Librarian.

How Do I Use a Research Database?

Use research databases to search for scholarly research publications, including primary research articles from peer reviewed journals.

You will need to break down your research question or topic of interest into a search phrase using key terms and Boolean limiters (AND, OR, and NOT). You can also select options to limit by date of publication, publication type, and more.

For more information on how to use research databases, see Database Search Strategies.
