Getting Better Results with PubMed

PubMed provides insight into the medical, veterinary and public health literature, among other disciplines.

Using PubMed for Animal or Poultry Science

You may search in PubMed for a lot of topics related to animal science, poultry science, and other topics in agriculture. It is often useful for veterinary science topics, animal health, and other things. If you need help, let us know.

PubMed (and Medline) has subject headings or MeSH to cover some things specifically.

For one example, the term Chickens is used for the animals we otherwise might call broilers or poultry, as well as Gallus gallus; Gallus domesticus, etc.

But poultry as a term refers to domestic fowls as a larger class. Then again, in the listing of MeSH terms, poultry diseases is a major subject term, but then there are many other ways to modify the term, such as economics, as checked below. In this case, checking economics under the term poultry diseases and adding it to the "search builder" yields "Poultry Diseases/economics"[Mesh] and retrieves a small and specific set of results.
