A nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics by monitoring the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding. FactCheck.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania.

The Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) is a non-profit investigative reporting group. Their reporting and analysis focus on exposing corporate spin and government propaganda. They publish PRWatch, SourceWatch, and BanksterUSA. Their newest investigative site is ALECexposed.org. They accept no funding from for-profit corporations or grants from the government.

PolitiFact is a project of the Tampa Bay Times and its partners focused on finding the truth in politics. They examine statements by anyone in American politics, research their statements and then rate the accuracy on our Truth-O-Meter. They rate the consistency of public officials on their Flip-O-Meter. They also track campaign promises of President Obama, congressional Republicans and many governors and mayors using promise meters. For each meter, they have collected a database of promises made by the officials during the campaign. They research and rate their status as No Action, Stalled or In the Works, and then ultimately determine whether it earns a Promise Kept, Compromise, or Promise Broken.
