The collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, official documents, and academic papers on a related to the Quapaw who occupied the region of the confluence of the Arkansas and Mississippi rivers.

Letters, receipts, invoices, military orders and other docu ments pertaining to the work of Johnson and his partner, Marshall Grimes, contractors with the Confederate States Army for provisioning Reserve Indians and troops; to the transport and supply functions of the Trans Mississippi Department, C. S. A., in Arkansas, Texas, and the Indian Territory; and to relations between the Confederate States of America and the several Indian nations in the area. Correspondents and persons to whom the material relates include Thomas Carmichael Hindman, Theophilus Hunter Holmes, Robert Crittenden Newton, Albert Pike, and William Quesenbury.

Letters, poems, greeting card, reprint of correspondence, and photographs, including five autograph letters and two autograph poems written by Pike, relating to aspects of the life and work of the Arkansas school teacher, editor, poet, political leader, and fraternal officer, particularly as regards: Indian affairs, especially in relation to Pike's work as Confederate States agent in treating with the several Indian nations and in relation to Charles B. Johnson's role in provisioning the Reserve Indians; efforts at financing the return of William Minor Quesenbury from Texas; the listing of Confederate generals from Arkansas; and Pike's former relationships with persons once prominent in Arkansas political affairs

Original manuscript of the work published in 1869 as Reminiscences of the Indians, recounting author Washburn's experiences as superintendent of the Dwight Mission and as missionary among the Cherokees of Western Arkansas from 1819 to 1840

Copies of correspondence created or received by Ross and others, May 3 to November 2, 1839, pertaining to political affairs in the Cherokee Nation, 1838-1839, especially as regards relations between the Western ("Old Settler") and the Eastern ("Emigrant") Cherokees, relations between both groups and the government of the United States, the Takatokah and Tahlequah Councils, and the murder of Elias Boudinot and the John Ridges (1770?-1843, 1803-1839). Other correspondents include Matthew Arbuckle, George Guess, John Rogers, Montford Stokes, Cephas Washburn, and Samuel Austin Worcester.

The collection includes research and organizational papers of the society. Areas of focus include local historical research and historic preservation.

The collection includes materials from Senator Pryor's time as publisher of the Ouachita Citizen, his terms in the Arkansas General Assembly and United States House of Representatives, his two terms as governor of Arkansas, and to his term in the United States Senate.

The Arkansas Council on Human Relations was organized in December 1954 and incorporated and staffed in 1955 as a voluntary non-profit, non-political organization. It was associated with the Southern Regional Council. The purpose of the ACHR was to seek improved human relations by working to secure equal opportunity for all people.

Hargis was an ultra-conservative minister and anti-Communist activist. The collection includes materials on a wide range of subjects with an emphasis on the menace of communism, both foreign and domestic.
