High School Visitors

This guide provides information useful to local area school groups that want to visit or use the resources of the University of Arkansas Libraries

Applying for Library Check-out Privileges

Community Users, including high school students, are eligible to apply for library privileges. The application process is two-fold:

1) applying to the library for privileges

2) getting a university ID card, called the Campus Card.

Having library privileges would allow students to check out books from Mullins Library, Fine Arts Library, Physics Library, and the Chemistry Library. It does not provide off-campus access to databases or electronic journals, nor does it allow for Interlibrary loan services.

Applying for Library Privileges

High School students may apply for community borrowing privileges by completing an Application for Library Privileges. See the Policy for Community Borrowers for details, but here are some highlights:

  • Fee for high school students is $15.00 (an additional fee is required by the Campus Card office to have an ID made)
  • government issued ID is required
  • NO CASH accepted. Credit/debit cards, or check only.
  • Parental signature required
  • Borrowing privileges do not include remote access to electronic databases.

Getting a University ID card

To use the library, community borrowers (including high school students) must get a university ID card. Further details about acquiring a University ID card can be found here.

  • There is a $10.00 fee payable to the Campus Card Office when the ID is made. Credit/debit, cash, or checks will be accepted.
  • A government issued photo ID is required.
  • Hours for the Campus Card office are: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm.

NOTE: Social Security numbers are required to be able to get ID cards made and for library privileges to be granted. Since all persons with library privileges get a record in our student information system (UA Connect), the social security number is the best way to match against other records in that system. High school students often have participated in other programs on our campus, and therefore may already have a record in UAConnect.

Group application for library privileges

If a teacher is assisting in the application process for a group of students, please contact us directly at njohns@uark.edu. Some information will need to be handled before the visit so that the finalized process of creating the ID cards and payment can be handled expeditiously on the day of the visit.
