The Children's Literature Collection is located on the south side of the fourth floor of Mulllins Library. The collection includes books suitable for children pre-k to 12th grade. The collection is organized into 8 sections to allow for easier browsing: picture books, early readers, chapter and middle grade books, young adult novels, graphic novels, traditional tales, biographies, and non-fiction. Each section is identified with a five digit code, color-coded spine stickers, and shelf signage.

Section Descriptions

Picture Books
Picture books are usually 32 pages long and have illustrations on every page. Only fiction picture books are included in this section.

Early Readers
Early readers use short, simple sentences and basic vocabulary. These books are meant to be read by children and have lots of pictures.

Chapter / Middle Grade Books
Chapter / middle grade books are written for ages 7 to 12 and grades 3rd through 7th. The books have chapters and few illustrations.

Young Adult Novels
Fictional books and novels geared toward teens and older tweens. This content is meant for ages 12+ and grades 7th and up.

Traditional Tales
Fiction and non-fiction books about legends, fairy tales, folk tales, myths, fables, traditional stories, and tall tales from around the world.

Graphic Novels
Graphic novels and comic books tell stories with comic-strip style illustrations. Both fiction and non-fiction graphic novels are included.

Biographies
Biographies and autobiographies are non-fiction books that tell the story of someone’s life. They can be written for any age level.

Non-Fiction
This section includes non-fiction children’s books except biographies and graphic novels. These books cover a wide range of topics.
