Civil War

This guide provides an overview of resources on the Civil War available in Special Collections.

About this guide

This guide is intended to serve as a starting point for doing research on the Civil War using materials available in Special Collections. The Special Collections department has been collecting primary sources and research materials on Arkansans experiences of the Civil War for many years, and has a significant number of collections available to researchers on this subject. The materials included in this guide range from manuscript materials such as diaries, correspondence, financial records, and military records, to published research materials on the impact that the Civil War had on the state of Arkansas.

While this guide highlights a number of collections on the topic, it is by no means comprehensive. For researchers seeking a more comprehensive overview of the collections pertaining to the Civil War held by the University of Arkansas Special Collections, please consult the index, Manuscript Resources for the Civil War.
