You can request published materials from the University Libraries online catalog. You can access OneSearch from within Aeon by clicking “New Requests,” and then clicking the “OneSearch” link under “Books and Published Materials,” or by going directly to the Library website at: https://library.uark.edu/ The catalog includes materials from our rare books collection, artist’s books collection, Arkansas Collection, and select manuscript collections.
From OneSearch, search by the title, author or keyword and select the item you are interested in. Select "Special Collections" from the far right drop-down menu.
Select an item from your search results.
To request an item from its catalog record, open the record and scroll down to the "Location" filter towards the bottom of the record. Click the Special Collections location. A list of items will open. Select the item you would like to request by clicking the "Special Collections Request" button to the right of the item.
If you are not already logged in to your Special Collections account, log in when prompted.
Most of the item information will be auto filled for you in the request form, but be sure to review this information.
Add any special requests, questions or additional information about your appointment in the Request information section.
If you haven't already created appointments from the Appointments tab, you can do so in this form. Click the red button labeled Schedule a new appointment to the right of the appointment text field. The appointment picker will expand to show a calendar and some additional text fields. Select an open date on the calendar and then click on the Appointment time field. Select from the available time blocks, name the appointment (optional), then click Create appointment.
Once you've created the appointment, it will autofill into the Appointment text field. Review your request to ensure you'v included all the information you need to include, then click the red Submit Request button at the bottom.
To search for our manuscript collections, select “Archives” above the search bar on the Special Collections home page. You can also go directly to ArchivesSpace by going to https://uark.as.atlas-sys.com/. If you are already logged in to your Special Collections account, go to the “New Requests page,” and click the “Archives Space” link under “Manuscript materials.”
From the ArchivesSpace landing page, search for the collection you are interested in, or by using a keyword related to your research. Searches can be limited to record type and date.
After executing the search, you will see a list of all materials related to your keyword. Results may include collections, series, sub-series, files, items, and digital objects. The type of record is listed under the record title. To inspect a finding aid, click on the collection title.
Once the finding aid is open, use the adjustable resource tree to the right to navigate through the collection finding aid. As you click on records in the list, the screen to the left will show the selected record's details which might include title, date, physical descriptions, restrictions, location of copies, etc. Notice that the system will prevent requests from the collection level.
To request materials, select a folder, and click the “Aeon Request” button in the right corner. Requests can be made at the file or item level.
You may be prompted to logon to Aeon if you are not already. U of A patrons should use the faculty, staff and student logon option. Non-U of A patrons should log on using Other users.
The first section of the order form will prompt researchers to select the box(es) to include in their request. If there is more than one container associated with a record, they will be listed on this page. The system will count multiple boxes in a single request individually. Note: Special Collections allows up to 5 box requests per day.
Below the box picker is an area to add any additional information you would like to convey to Special Collections about your request. This can be related to the request, the appointment, etc.
If you have selected the schedule appointment radio button option, the form below will allow you to schedule an appointment in the reading room. If you haven't already created appointments from the Appointments tab, you can do so in this form. Click the red button labeled Schedule a new appointment to the right of the appointment text field. The appointment picker will expand to show a calendar and some additional text fields. Select an open date on the calendar and then click on the Appointment time field. Select from the available time blocks, name the appointment (optional), then click Create appointment.
Once you've created the appointment, it should autofill into the appointment text field. You can also switch between other upcoming appointments by clicking into the field and selecting any of the other upcoming appointments you have already created. Click the Submit Request button to complete the requesting process.
You should see your submitted request in the Outstanding requests section of your account with a status of Awaiting Request Processing. The alert at the top of the page will let you know how many boxes you have used towards the container limit.
If you begin your research at OneSearch, you will need to navigate to the collection finding aid in ArchivesSpace to request access to the material.
