When you submit your project to ScholarWorks@UARK, all web users will be able to view, download, and print it – unless you apply an embargo. An embargo stipulates that your project cannot become available on the web for a specified time. Until the embargo expires, only the metadata (e.g., your name, the title, the abstract) will be visible to web users.

Should you apply an embargo?

An embargo safeguards research, creative work, and proprietary or private information which may not be released to the public, at least not immediately. For example, if you or your mentor plans to apply for a patent, if you hope to publish your work, or if you worked with a business, you will not want to make your publicly available.

Ask your mentor if your act may be posted on the web at any time.

•  If it should never appear on the web, do not submit it to ScholarWorks@UARK.
•  If it may be posted eventually, find out how long the embargo should last (one year, two years, three years) – and make sure you check the right box on the author agreement form when you submit your project to ScholarWorks@UARK.
•  If it may be posted right now, you will not need to apply an embargo when you submit it to ScholarWorks@UARK.

When your embargo expires, your thesis or project will automatically become available in ScholarWorks@UARK.
