Books remain important to literature and related disciplines. OneSearch contains records of items owned at the University of Arkansas Libraries, the Law Library, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
Fictional works are often not assigned assigned subject headings. Instead, use Advanced Search in OneSearch by author or title search to locate them. For example:
sachs nelly
goethe johann wolfgang von 1749-1832
barfüssiger februar
Hint: OneSearch generally treats the Eszett (ß) and "ss" as equivalent. The same is true for umlauts--you may enter vowels with or without them. However, you can often catch variants by using the same terms and substituting "ae," "oe," or "ue".
Using OneSearch Advanced Search by field "subject" allows considerable precision.
For general works, use headings such as:
For works about a particular author, try searches like the following:
You may also search for authors by group, such as:
For materials about specific literary genres, try searches like these:
If you are looking for a particular literary period, search for one of the following:
Hint: These time periods can be used with groups of authors and genre headings also.
WorldCat enables you to search for items beyond Fayetteville. If you find a citation in WorldCat or encounter one in a printed list of references, please check OneSearch to see if it is locally available.
Most searchers rely exclusively on keywords to retrieve records in online catalogs. If you wish to retrieve more precise results, try searching by controlled vocabulary for your topic, often referred to as "subject headings" or "descriptors." And you can best search by author by typing the last name before the first name.
