Collecting, organizing, and citing your references

Zotero 7 is Here

Zotero LogoZotero 7 is in General Release

Zotero version 7 is now available and offers a redesigned, speedy interface. While you can continue using version 6 and earlier releases, we recommend an upgrade to enjoy:

  • A modern design with "comfortable" or "compact" modes of text density and light or dark modes, including dark mode support for PDFs.
  • Support for Apple Silicon Macs and 64-bit Windows
  • Redesigned item pane with easy-to-navigate sections, the ability to view which libraries and collections an item is files in, and to set the default style format for the full citation.
  • Updates to the PDF viewer, which now supports EPUB and web snapshot formats.  Annotate with ink or underline.
  • When editing in Word, a smart reference pop-up shows the full item being cited.
  • Quick citing lists currently open documents.

And much more!

What Zotero Does

Zotero (pronounced "zoh-TAIR-oh") is a free program that collects, manages, and cites research sources. It's easy to use, lives in your web browser where you do your work, and best of all it's free. Zotero allows you to attach PDFs, notes and images to your citations, organize them into collections for different projects, and create bibliographies.

Zotero requires that you install two different applications on each computer you use for research:

  • the standalone Zotero program or app itself
  • the browser connector that works with Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or Edge.

Zotero Mobile App

Zotero LogoZotero Mobile apps are available for iOS and Android (beta)

As with the Zotero Web Library, you can add, edit, and organize items in your Zotero App but there are not plugins for word processing.
