Student Curated Digital Exhibits

This guide includes information for students curating digital exhibits using Special Collections materials

Brainstorming Ideas and Creating Content

Before creating your digital exhibit, you should first brainstorm ideas and storyboard the content you will include. Your supervisor will share a board for you to use for your project, but you can also explore this example:

Adding Content to Your Padlet Storyboard

  1. Each column on the board represents a required section for your exhibit. You can add additional sections and re-title the existing sections, but you must include these elements: an introduction, at least two sections, and a resource list / bibliography.
  2. To change the title of one of the columns, double click the text in the column header, make your edits, and then click save. To add a new column, click the “Add Column” button.
  3. Use the plus button underneath the column title to add cards to your board. Think of each card as a content chunk for your exhibit. Give each card a title (you can re-use these later as page or section titles in your exhibit) and then use the description section of each card to make notes about the content you want to include and the points you want to make. Think about what content you want to present and include a permalink to the digital item(s) you will include. You can also upload the file you plan to later upload to Omeka. Also think about how you want to present that content: will you need one image and then text? A series of images? Just text?
  4. Drag and drop cards to re-order them in the column or move them to another column. Drag and drop the column to re-order the entire column.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 as needed until you have completed the storyboard for your exhibit.
