Check for physical items in the location to be deleted.
Check for both permanent and temporary location.
For temporary locations, in Advanced Search in Alma, be sure to include the criterion "In temporary location" = yes, Otherwise, the search will find items previously in temporary locations, as well.
If items are found, they will need to be withdrawn or moved permanently before the location can be deleted.
Option one (quick method) is to move items to the location MAINSUPPR Main Suppressed . Then they can be searched and withdrawn / transferred at a later date.
If moving serials volumes, consult with Metadata and Cataloging (metadata@uark.edu)
Option two (longer process) is to proceed with search / withdrawal / transfer in the current location.
Mark any items to be searched as missing. These can go through an abbreviated search process.
Mark any items not found with Internal Note 3 "Ready for withdrawal YYYYMMDD" These will then go through the regular withdrawal cycle.
Transfer any found items to their true shelving location.
Once items have been removed from the location by either method, check for empty holdings locations records using that location.
Check the Analytics report at shared > University of Arkansas Fayetteville 01UARK_INST > Reports > Physical Inventory > Holdings records with no active items
If empty holdings are found, report to metadata@uark.edu.
Once both items and holdings are cleared, Inform the ISC that the location is scheduled for deletion on [date]
If a branch library location, also inform the library managers.
In Alma, go to configuration and change to appropriate library.
Choose Fulfillment > Physical Locations,
Delete the location(s).
Request that the Circulation Systems Manager review Terms of Use and Notices for any stray references to the deleted location.
