The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) offers a collection of backlist academic titles from a variety of university presses on its Fulcrum platform. 

The Libraries obtain ACLS e-books in two ways:

  • the majority of titles are part of an annual subscription
  • a small number of titles are open access

Titles are licensed for unlimited users.

Do I need a special account?

No

Are there download or print limits?

Individual chapters may usually be downloaded in PDF format for personal research use.  Look for the Contents tab to see the Table of Contents and  downloadable chapters. Not all titles have PDF downloads.

Can I read offline?

Individual chapters may usually be downloaded in PDF format.  Look for the Contents tab to see the Table of Contents and  downloadable chapters. For entire books, the site is optimized for online reading.

Is special software needed?

No, the Fulcrum e-book reader works in your web browser.
