EndNote Exporting and Importing Instructions

Help with exporting citations from library databases into your EndNote account.

Note that Direct Export to EndNote Web does not appear to be working currently- 02/18/19.

To export multiple records

  1. Click the Share icon, next to each entry in your search results that you wish to save.
  2. Once you’ve got the records you wish to export, click the View List link at the upper right of the page.  
  3. Under the options panel on the left side of the page, click the Export section.
  4. Select EndNote and save. 
  5. Your file will be saved as a citation.ris file. 
  6. Log into EndNote, if you are not already logged in.
  7. Under the Collect tab, select Import References.
  8. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved file. Under filter, select RefMan RIS, select the group where you would like the citations to be placed, then hit Import. 
  9. Your references should be automatically imported into your account

To export a single record

  1. When viewing the full record, click the Cite or Share link below the video/music window to take you to “Your List”
  2. Under the options panel on the left side of the page, click the Export section.
  3. Select EndNote and save. 
  4. Your file will be saved as a citation.ris file. 
  5. Log into EndNote, if you are not already logged in.
  6. Under the Collect tab, select Import References.
  7. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved file. Under filter, select RefMan RIS, select the group where you would like the citation to be placed, then hit Import. 
  8. Your reference should be automatically imported into your account
