EndNote Exporting and Importing Instructions

Help with exporting citations from library databases into your EndNote account.

ProQuest

  1. Search for the record(s) you wish to export.
    1. To view a record, click its title.
    2. Select the record(s) by clicking the checkbox(es) to the left of the record(s).
    3. Click the Cite button at the top of the results.
    4. In the Cite pop-up:
      1. Click RIS Citavi, Mendeley, etc. near the bottom.
    5. In the Export/Save pop-up:
      1. To the right of Output to, verify that RIS (works with EndNote, Citavi, Mendeley etc.) is selected.
      2. To the right of Content, select Citation, abstract, indexing, PDF Link .
      3. Finally, click Continue on the bottom right.
      4. If prompted, save the file; it will have an .RIS extension.
  2. Log in to EndNote.
    1. Under the Collect tab, select Import References.
    2. Click Browse to locate the saved file.
    3. From the Import Option drop-down menu, select RefMan RIS .
    4. From the To drop-down menu, select the group where you would like the record to be placed.
    5. Finally, click Import.

  1. Search for the record(s) you wish to export.
    1. To view a record, click its title.
    2. Click the Get Citation Get Citation button on the top OR click Cite Book on the left.
    3. In the pop-up
      1. Under Export Citation, click EndNote/Citavi .
      2. If prompted, save the file; it will have an .RIS extension.
  2. Log in to EndNote.
    1. Under the Collect tab, select Import References .
    2. Click Browse to locate the saved file.
    3. From the Import Option drop-down menu, select RefMan RIS .
    4. From the To drop-down menu, select the group where you would like the record to be placed.
    5. Finally, click Import .
