EndNote Exporting and Importing Instructions

Help with exporting citations from library databases into your EndNote account.

ProQuest

  1. Perform a search and mark the references you want to export.
  2. Choose the Save or Save/Export option on the top menu bar.
  3. Select RIS format (works with EndNote, Citavi, etc.)
  4. Your file will be saved as an RIS file.
  5. Login to EndNote.
  6. Under Collect, select Import References.
  7. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved file.
  8. Under Filter, select RefManRIS.
  9. Select the group where you would like the citation to be placed, then hit Import.

ProQuest Ebook Central

  1. When viewing a book in ebrary, look for the Cite Book link on the left menu or the icon with quotes "" for Gert Citation in the ebrary reader.
  2. Choose EndNote / Citavi.
  3. Your browser will prompt you to save the file, which by default is named "BibExport.action" and is an RIS formatted file
  4. Log in to EndNote. Under the Collect tab, select Import References.
  5. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved file.Under filter, select, RefMan RIS, select the group where you would like the citation to be placed, then hit Import.

ProQuest Early English Books Online

  1. Click on the record(s) you want to export by clicking the box next to each item.
  2. At the top of the page, click the Marked List link.
  3. On the new page, click the Download records button at the top of the page.
  4. In the next screen, select the ProCite, EndNote, or Reference manager link.
  5. The file will be saved to your computer; often with the name "done."
  6. Log in to EndNote. Under the Collect tab, select Import References.
  7. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved file. Under filter, select RefMan RIS,
  8. Select the group where you would like the citation to be placed, then hit Import.
