EndNote Exporting and Importing Instructions

Help with exporting citations from library databases into your EndNote account.

JSTOR

JSTOR allows you to save article citations, but not the full text of articles. Your citation will include a link back to the full text article.

For Multiple Records

  1. Select the citation/s you want by clicking the box next to each item.
  2. Click the Export Selected Citations link at the top right of the results page.
  3. Choose Export a RIS file.
  4. Your file will be saved as an *.ris file.
  5. Login to EndNote.
  6. Under Collect, select Import References.
  7. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved text file.
  8. Under Filter, select RefMan RIS.
  9. Select the group where you would like the citation to be placed, then hit Import.

For a Single Record

  1. When Viewing a detailed record, look for the Cite This button.
  2. Under the Export Citation options, choose Export a RIS file.
  3. Your file will be saved as an *.ris file.
  4. Login to EndNote.
  5. Under Collect, select Import References.
  6. Click Browse to locate and attach the saved text file.
  7. Under Filter, select RefMan RIS.
  8. Select the group where you would like the citation to be placed, then hit Import.
